"Truth, Goodness and Beauty in the Healing Arts"

WHAT IS HEALTHY LIVING?

Although one may be tempted to think that healthy living is an inconvenient set of rules, that one lives because one must, it is far more beautiful and rewarding. It is an evolving lifestyle led by inspiration, love of beauty and obedience to Natural Laws. The motivation to adhere to natural principles comes from a desire to be and live with grace, in harmony with our environment and within ourselves. The rewards are plentiful, and as our habits and attitudes become pure, life affirming and self-nurturing and as we experience natural law working positively within our lives, it becomes easier and more attractive to choose the path of grace and goodness.

Just as before we automatically turned to comfortable and familiar patterns that brought pain and imbalance into our lives, the law of attraction and repulsion can now work to our advantage as we attract and are drawn to self-nurturing and loving life patterns that bring a sense of meaning, beauty and wellness to our daily lives.

In order to learn to care for our bodies and the world that we live in, we must first accept the belief that correct laws of living do exist, and that transgression of these laws results in dis-ease and imbalance in our bodies and in our lives. Thus illness is seen as a messenger from nature reminding us that we must live our lives in harmony with its laws. Illness can be a beautiful opportunity to spin straw into gold, to learn what is required to find harmony and to apply the principles of nature to bring beauty and grace back into our lives.

To do this we must accept responsibility for our present condition on all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, and fully embracing the law of action and reaction choose to alter our life habits and patterns to create the wellness that we are seeking. In Ayervedic tradition this law is described as 'the soil, not the seed'. Rather than considering the body to be at the mercy of illness and disease, they see that disease can only reside where a home has been prepared for it. Rather than choosing treatments to 'kill the invaders', as seen in modern culture with drug therapies, pesticides etc., a naturopath or herbalist teaches a lifestyle that seeks harmony with the body's own power to heal and find balance. Once balance is clearly and consciously strived for, 'dis-ease' on all levels will leave of its own accord.

So to achieve Healthy Living requires that we follow the path of Transformation one step at a time, that we purify and enlighten our lives with love and obedience to natural law and embrace a clear vision of the beauty that each one of us is and can be.
